TOKYO, July 05, 2022--(BUSINESS WIRE)--DIC Corporation (TOKYO:4631) has completed investment in Back of the Yards Algae Sciences Inc. (BYAS), a sustainable food technology startup focused on developing innovative extracts and alternative proteins, headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. The move strategically advances DIC’s growing business position in more sustainable and circular algae-derived products, including natural food colorants, natural food additives, and biostimulants—vital for improving vertical farming yields.

BYAS owns proprietary technology for efficiently extracting active ingredients from biobased materials, notably algae and mycelia. BYAS currently produces unique products such as food colorants, food additives, biostimulants. The company’s spirulina (cyanobacteria) algae-based Heme Analog (BYAS-AHA) is receiving intense interest for its ability to enhance the alternative meat taste and aroma, without the use of genetically modified organisms (GMO).

Moreover, BYAS’ proprietary zero-waste platform effectively utilizes all ingredients obtained from biobased materials, contributing to both the improvement of consumer health and the circular economy, perfectly aligned with DIC’s Vision—to improve the human condition by safely delivering color and comfort for sustainable prosperity.

Since becoming the first company in the world to successfully commercialize Spirulina production in the 1970s, the DIC Group has been a pioneer in Spirulina research, finding safe ways to use high-quality Spirulina powders and the Spirulina-derived edible pigment and natural blue food colorant Lina Blue® in healthy food products, food materials, and livestock feed, globally.

Through this alliance, DIC and BYAS will share algae mass-culture technology and functional component extraction technology—that DIC has long-cultivated in the Spirulina business—to develop new products, further improve production efficiency, reducing waste, and improving sustainability through the more-effective use of natural resources.

Moreover, in collaboration with Parsippany, New Jersey-based Sun Chemical Corporation—a DIC Group member company operating in the United States and Europe—DIC plans to expand product sales globally while developing new applications.

The DIC Group delivers safe, high-quality products to consumers. By strengthening its bio-based materials business, focused on Biomaterial Design in the healthcare field, DIC continues to enhance its contributions to Quality of Life (QOL) as set forth in its new long-term management plan DIC Vision 2030.

Virgin will manufacture its Delta-class spaceships at the Mesa facility, which have a target to reach space in 2025 by way revenue-generating payload flights and private astronaut flights in 2026.

The powerful James Webb Space Telescope's inaugural batch of images has opened a new chapter of cosmic exploration, but astronomers say the observatory's most consequential discoveries may well be those they have yet to even imagine. Distant colliding galaxies, gas-giant exoplanets and dying star systems were the first celestial subjects captured by the multibillion-dollar observatory, putting its wide range of infrared-imaging capabilities on colorful display and proving the telescope works as designed. Webb's gallery of early photos and spectrographic data, which astronomers likened to the results of mere "target practice" as they readied the telescope for operational science, also previewed several planned areas of inquiry ahead.

After a little over a month of delays, NASA and SpaceX are ready to launch a resupply mission to the International Space Station, which includes more than 5,800 pounds of supplies, equipment and scientific investigations. NASA ultimately said that the issue, which caused elevated vapor readings of mono-methyl hydrazine, was due to a “valve inlet joint” in the Draco thrusters. The leak marked a rare hiccup for SpaceX’s Dragon capsule program, which until now has conducted a number of missions ferrying crew and cargo to and from the ISS with little issue.

Virgin Galactic, which is working toward commercial space travel, will open an assembly manufacturing facility for spaceships in Mesa.

It's now available for $170.

The 'integrated crews' agreement means a Russian cosmonaut will fly on a SpaceX Crew Dragon in September.

The billionaire built his reputation and fortune juggling diverse businesses—a skill that is being tested like rarely before.

(Reuters) -NASA and Russia's space agency Roscosmos have signed a long-sought agreement to integrate flights to the International Space Station, allowing Russian cosmonauts to fly on U.S.-made spacecraft in exchange for American astronauts being able to ride on Russia's Soyuz, the agencies said Friday. "The agreement is in the interests of Russia and the United States and will promote the development of cooperation within the framework of the ISS program," Roscosmos said in a statement, adding it will facilitate the "exploration of outer space for peaceful purposes."

Virgin Galactic Holdings Inc. on Thursday said it signed a long-term lease for a final assembly manufacturing facility in Mesa, Arizona.

The SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket successfully launched to the International Space Station on Thursday night from Florida's Space Coast.

Nasa and Roscosmos made the announcement of integrated flights shortly after the Russian space program leader was replaced

In the creation of a new drug, there comes a point where you have to finally put the molecule in a real creature — one at a time — and see if it actually does what you think it does. Manifold Bio's molecular machinery could let a hundred molecules be tested simultaneously in a single living system, potentially upending the whole process. In vivo means "in life," as opposed to in vitro (in glass) or in silico (simulated), and mice are the usual critters that get the dubious honor of testing out a new drug's safety and efficacy.

A big showy rocket launch put the Webb Telescope in space, but a small group of people in Baltimore worked behind the scenes to make its first images possible, Jon Kelvey writes

A brain drain in the space arena will have detrimental effects on our national security and our states’ readiness, and creating a Space National Guard is the best, most cost-efficient way to prevent that from happening.

The city of Paso Robles expects to have a spaceport license by the summer of 2024.

While the pictures stirred the awe and wonder of normal people, they also became a target for good old-fashioned idiots—er, conspiracy theorists—who believe that the photos are fake, or really evidence of enormous aliens, or that Webb is a giant space laser, actually.Welcome to the age
